maun's visit

so maun up and visited me on his company's dime. we went crazy-go-nuts and blew like close to $500 between us on drink and food over that weekend. thus begins the "high-society tour"...

i pick maun up on friday nite w/ the rental (a racing red toyota corolla.. it had a spoiler), and we head to my apartment to unpack his crap. we get to may place, and we decide to move on up and goto a reediculous steak joint, el gaucho (trans: the gaucho), for dinner. we decide to roll in all ghetto fab-like: i was dressed to impress in a white undershirt, cargo pants and some sneaks; maun was dressed to the 9's in some jeans.

anyway, el gaucho is so reediculously awesome that their clientele doesn't bat a high-society eye in our general direction when we walk in. i'm guessing they thought that we were highrollers of such high caliber and ilk that we could afford to step in wife beaters and sneakers at such a tits joint. god i love rappers and professional sports players to pave the way. i think bill gates and donald trump opened the door when nelly knocked on the country club doors. maybe?

anyway, we new we were in for a treat once we heard nice soothing live music coming from the pianist on a grand and midi. we get escorted to our seats by the hot hostess (classy joints only employ the beautiful people) which was suprisingly in the best area of the floor: away from doors and close-and-far-enough away from the music. seeing the cigar room sign in old school neon lights off in the corner sealed the deal.

sufficed to say, i had a juicey medium-rare prime cut ribeye with lobster medallions and maun got a nice rack of lamb. we chased the meat down with some wines and scotches, and the bill for the dinner came out to too much. we headed over to the cigar room where we sipped some more scotches and cognacs whilst puff'n a mac and a monte. to borrow a phrase, the whole scene was decadent. trust me when i say that the gold diggers were out in full force. when people are expected to drop at least 3 large, you'd expect them to be a part of the decor. good eyecandy tho.

honestly, i think that's the most interesting part of the weekend from my perspective. when else have i ever dropped so much on drink and food? was it worth it? yes. will i do it again? "high-society" tour. next up, i'll be in nj/nyc where i'll prolly take my bro out on the town.

...fine. i'll go ahead and talk about the rest of that weekend. saturday, maun and i ended up trying to see as much of seattle-proper in one day. we did the whole pike's place market thing where i tried my first turkish doner (which is very much like a gyro, but different bread). i guess maun, nina and tedralph all swear by it, but i wasn't around in germany for a summer. bishes. anyway... went kayaking at lake union, witnessed a freak/dork dungeons & dragons wedding at gasworks park, went to the o-deck of the space needle, and some more trink'n later that nite with a co-worker of mine and her sister and their friends.

the morning after, we got our sorry arses up in time enough to hike the naches peak loop in 2 hours (supposed to be a 3 hour hike), and finally make maun's departing flight out of seattle.

what did i tell you guys... you should have taken me up on visiting me in seattle. i'm 2/2--the first was kathy's visit in july when we ate some good senegalese food and went sea kayaking in the san juan islands).

this is my last 3 days at the office. i'll update with more about some of the odds and ends type of thoughts that are romping around my head.
