while in the middle of doing some grad apps, i came across something very novel: a zdnet article on mouse gestures.

very interesting.

aside from that... yes, my grad app process is in swing. i actually have formalized my interests some more, so my personal statement is going to need tweaking. this formalization was a result of an email going out to some faculty over at ucsd about being more specific about my interests. here's the section of email re: this.

Primarily, I am interested in the process of classification. How do we recognize things? How do we store this information? How do we retrieve it? Are things related to other things once it is stored? How are things related to other things once it is stored? Besides relations, are there any other consequences of a classified thing?

From here, I have been exposed to two different areas in cognitive science that utilize classification: sensation/perception and psycholinguistics. I also have interest in computer science in multimedia databases and artificial intelligence.

Currently, I have no preference for the level or grain of processing (e.g. high vs. low level vision processes; word vs. sentence vs. discourse analysis).
